Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.23.028504
I note you seek access to the following information:
I would like to know data on supermarket theft from the last 5 years. By supermarket I refer to any shop that sells food ie Asda, Morrisons etc whilst also including data from corner shops.
I would like the information to come monthly from June 2022 or whatever is the most recent data available. Prior to this, from 2017, I would like the data to come yearly (or whatever is easiest).
The data is to include reports of supermarket theft including reports that weren’t resolved by the police.
I would like the data in calendar years.
My aim is to find data showing a trend in supermarket theft relating to the cost of living crisis.
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
Please note that regarding reports that were not resolved by the police we have provided the outcomes, which would show how many of these offences have been resolved by outcome 18 - 'Investigation complete - no suspect identified. Crime investigated as far as reasonably possible, case closed pending further investigative opportunities becoming available' which would give an indication of the number 'not resolved by police'. This is what we would usually use to show 'undetected' crimes.
