Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.23.028645
I note you seek access to the following information:
Mobile phone related thefts;
Please, would it be possible to get spatially-referenced crime data on reported thefts/snatching of mobile phones either at the following resolution: either at a street-level or at a Lower Super Output Area (LSOA)?
In terms of specification of the data. Would it be possible to get data on crime events specifically related to the category of “Thefts of mobile-phones” or “Snatching of mobile-phone” that have occurred in the MPS area of “City of London Police”. The timeframe of this request is from 01 January 2000 to 31 December 2022?
CLARIFICATION;
may I take this opportunity to make the correction to my request:
• Crime category: We would like to acquire crime data specifically on the category of “Mobile phone related thefts” or “Reported snatching of a mobile phone”
• Spatial Resolution: We would like, if possible, to have access to such information which has been spatially referenced to a point location of the centroid of a street/road segment (something that’s akin to what’s in data.police.uk database). If this is not possible – we would be happy to have the reported number or counts of the above category aggregated to the Lower Super Output Area (LSOA) level.
• MPD Areas/Boundaries: Thank you very much for this correction. Here, we would like to request for all data on mobile phone related thefts that have been documented in all of London’s 32 Boroughs for which the MPS operate in (i.e., Barking & Dagenham, Barnet, Bexley, Brent, Bromley, Camden, City of Westminster, Croydon, Ealing, Enfield, Greenwich, Hackney, Hammersmith & Fulham, Haringey, Harrow, Havering, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Islington, Kensington & Chelsea, Kingston-upon-Thames, Lambeth, Lewisham, Newham, Merton, Redbridge, Richmond-upon-Thames, Southwark, Sutton, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, and Wandsworth).
• Timeframe: We would like, if possible, to request for all cases of mobile phone related thefts that have been reported between 01/01/2000 to 31/12/2022.
I hope this above specification especially with regards to the areas have been cleared. I have excluded City of London and Heathrow area from this request. I hope you find these details in order.”
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
