Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.22.026563
I note you seek access to the following information:
Almost 14,000 people wanted by the Metropolitan Police for crimes including violence and sex attacks are on the loose.
It's a premium article which I can't view.
I seek information about the length of time you have wanted these suspects.
Please disaggregate the figure of almost 14,000 to show how many people were added to the total in each of the last 5 years.
CLARIFICATION:
Thank you for your email seeking clarification. You wrote:
Please can you explain what does it mean to “disaggregate the figure of almost 14,000 to show how many people were added to the total in each of the last 5 years.
I had assumed that some of the people 'wanted' will have been wanted for more than 5 years.
If 6 years ago 1,000 people were wanted, then during the 5 relevant years approximately 13,000 people will have been added to the number of those wanted. Each year a number will have been added to give the current total of approximately 14,000. I seek the number added to the total number of those wanted in each of the last 5 years.
For example:
6 years ago - 1,000
2018/19 - 1,000
2019/20 - 1,000
2020/21 - 2,000
2021/22 - 5,000
2022/23 (part year) - 4,000
The purpose of my request is to find out how long you have been trying to find the individuals concerned.
Decision
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find information below pursuant to your request above.
Please note that the following information is based on wanted records over 5 years.
This will include where people are wanted more than once. Please note that as the years proceed the number of records decrease, as they are effectively no longer wanted, and as such would be removed from the wanted records list.
This is however not reflected in the data below as to provide data of open and closed records, and therefore removed records, would be time consuming and would engage a refusal notice, governed by S.12 of the FOIA.
