I note you seek access to the following information:

I am researching the number of detectives and PIP 2 investigators over the past few years in forces across the UK.

I was hoping to get some information around the number of detectives employed in your force and how many civilian investigators you have. Figures for the previous 5 years would be beneficial as this would relate to the recent uplift provided by the government of 20000 new police officers. No personal data will be used within this research and will only be figures.

Please find below information pursuant to your request above.

The staff table contains police staff, contractors and agency workers and includes all those with ‘investigator’ in their job title and would be considered to be a civilian investigator.
The officers table includes data totals for all Police Officer “Detective” ranks, including those that are training in role.

Data is given from most recent report (31/12/2022) and each March (end of financial year) going back for the requested period of time.
