Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
Please find attached Excel Spreadsheet with the data requested.
Please read the ‘Notes’ page in conjunction with the stats to ensure that it is interpreted correctly.
Please also note the following which adds some context to the data.
Schools deal with all manner of incidents that are never reported to police. Where schools choose to inform and involve a Safer Schools Officer (SSO) in dealing with a crime, police are required to record incidents as per the Home Office Counting Rules for recorded crime in schools (Annex B). However, SSOs will work in partnership with the school(s) to find the right outcomes for the individuals involved.
Through 2021-2022, 89.9% of crime recorded in schools resulted in resolutions outside the criminal justice system including school sanctions, restorative approaches and referrals to intervention and diversion schemes.
Similarly, one of the aims of a Safer School Partnership is to provide positive engagement to build trust and confidence between the school community (Young people, school staff and parents) and the police, therefore, engagement is a primary focus for SSOs and includes work with schools to provide good outcomes for young people, as above, as well as delivery of crime prevention presentations and being a regular presence.
