I would like to request any training materials held by the Met on community tensions indicators and monitoring. This might include manuals, training materials, presentations, lecture notes, indicators, etc. which cover the observation, recording, processing, and decision making on tensions levels within a community.

Q1 - In regards to the MONITORING aspect of you request above.
Following receipt of your request, I have conducted searches to locate information relevant to your request within the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) Learning & Development Training Department.

Q2 - In regards to the TRAINING aspect of you request above. I have disclosed the following information.
Initial Police Learning and Development Programme (IPLDP+)
Currently there is training around Community Policing within the Third Year of recruit training (termed Progression 3). This is defined by the College of Policing Learning outcomes as follows
1. Describe why key incidents/events have had a damaging effect on the willingness of communities to engage with the police.
2. Summarise how current policing practice can impact upon the community.
3. Explain the role of community policing in fostering and maintaining community cohesion
4. Review key principles of effective community engagement
The minimum content is:
1.1 National and local incidents
1.2 High profile cases which have affected the community relationship with the police
1.3 Rationale for negative outcomes
1.4 Balancing key causation factors
2.1 Methods currently employed to deliver effective policing to the community: Use of Community Impact Assessments / Trigger points/trigger incidents / Use of evidenced-based Policing approaches/methods
Our element is 5 hours and covers:
• Explore why there is a historical mistrust of the police by some sections of society
• Explain methods currently employed to deliver effective policing to the community
• Discuss the impact of policing resources on community policing
• Examine the impact of community engagement on police legitimacy and community confidence
• Identify key stakeholders
• Explain typology and influences on community partnerships
• Discuss how to develop an effective community engagement strategy
• Describe why key incidents/events have had a damaging effect on the willingness of communities to engage with the police.
• Summarise how current policing practice can impact upon the community
• Explain the role of community policing in fostering and maintaining community cohesion
• Review key principles of effective community engagement
Within this we explore the use of CIA’s and guidance provided to the students on how to complete the assessment within the form
