I am writing to request the number of stolen pets in your jurisdiction.
I am requesting the number of thefts be broken down:
- By specific breed
- Over the last five years, by calendar year (2017-2022).
If possible, I am requesting to know the average cost of each theft.
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
These searches successfully located the information relevant to your request. I have attached an excel spreadsheet with the answers to your questions. Please note there are three separate tabs within the spreadsheet, titled cover sheet, notes and table. The notes page should be read in conjunction with the data to ensure the report is interpreted correctly.
DATASET CAVEAT
Please note, although, some animals may have initially been reported as stolen, a portion of these may in fact be a dispute over ownership, for example when a relationship breaks down. It is also worth noting that the cost is estimated by the owner of the pet and may not be a true reflection of the actual cost.
