I note you seek access to the following information:

1) How many motorists of all categories - cars, vans, lorries, motorbikes etc - were stopped by police because officers suspected they were under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Please provide information for the last three years for which data is available. Please provide an annual breakdown.Please provide an ethnic and gender breakdown.

2) Of those stopped by police suspected of drink or drug driving how many were breathalysed or asked to undergo some other form of drink or drug testing by police? Please provide information for the last three years for which data is available. Please provide an annual breakdown. Please provide an ethnic and gender breakdown.

3) Of those stopped by police suspected of drink or drug driving and tested how many tested positive and how many tested negative?.Please provide information for the last three years for which data is available. Please provide an annual breakdown. Please provide an ethnic and gender breakdown.

4) Of those stopped by police suspected of drink or drug driving how many were not breathalysed due to a shortage of equipment or for some other reason? Please provide information for the last three years for which data is available. Please provide an annual breakdown. Please provide an ethnic and gender breakdown.

Q1 - How many motorists of all categories - cars, vans, lorries, motorbikes etc - were stopped by police because officers suspected they were under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Please provide information for the last three years for which data is available. Please provide an annual breakdown.Please provide an ethnic and gender breakdown.

We do not have data relating to why an officer decides to stop a vehicle. Regarding drink and drug drive. We do not have a system to record reason for why a driver has been stopped.

Q2 - Of those stopped by police suspected of drink or drug driving how many were breathalysed or asked to undergo some other form of drink or drug testing by police? Please provide information for the last three years for which data is available. Please provide an annual breakdown. Please provide an ethnic and gender breakdown.

Generally due to the issues with the Lion Electronic Screening Device (ESD) download software we do not have any reliable data relating to number of breath tests conducted since 2016. Although the issue has now been rectified such data is only available from May this year and therefore will not be representative of the information you have requested.

Q3 - Of those stopped by police suspected of drink or drug driving and tested how many tested positive and how many tested negative?.Please provide information for the last three years for which data is available. Please provide an annual breakdown. Please provide an ethnic and gender breakdown.

Due to the above reason the only data available relates to arrest data as a result of positive breath tests and positive roadside drug tests. This is provided below.

Arrest data is provided for those areas we collect. These figures relate to the use of either an Electronic Screening Device (ESD) or a roadside drug screening device only. We do not hold a breakdown of the data by ethnicity or gender.
