Qa - Please could you tell me the role and function of the Uniform and Appearance Board
All requests for new submissions or variations of uniform and equipment have to be approved by the Uniform and Appearance Board (UAB) regardless of other board approvals that may have been received. The board ensures that the appropriate controls are in place and that the right priority is given to our suppliers for progression of the product. The Uniform and Appearance Board is chaired by a Chief Superintendent who is the Met’s senior user representative for uniform and equipment.
The Uniform and Appearance Board reports into the Uniform and Appearance Strategic Board (UASB); a joint initiative of business groups’ representatives across the Met and gives final authority for decisions relating to the Met’s Uniform Strategy and Policy.
There are seven sub groups that report into UAB. These sub groups are responsible for the initial scoping work and assessment of any requests for new or replacement products, or for any changes to kit lists for roles within their functional areas. The chairs of these sub groups will also approve and oversee the initial sourcing and testing/trial of any suitable options. Once a trial is completed and a product/products are identified, a decision paper will be completed by the relevant business sponsor and will be presented by the relevant sub group chair to UAB for final decision and/or escalation to UASB where required.
