How many identifications have been made by the Central Image Investigation Unit (CIIU) in the last financial year?

Please find below information pursuant to your request above.

The number of identifications made by officers posted to the CIIU only for financial year 2021/22 is 1206.

The vast majority of these will be intelligence identifications, where the officer making the identification has not physically met the suspect and therefore these identifications are not evidential and not covered by PACE Code D for recognition.

Their intelligence idents should be treated as an important lead in an investigation, but would need corroborative evidence to reach the threshold for a charging decision.
