Q1. How many vehicles were seized (and impounded) in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 to date for the above?
Q2. How many % of those vehicles ended up being scrapped (for each of those years)?
Q3. Were any Ferraris, Lamborghinis seized?
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
This information is provided subject to the following data caveats:
• The data used to compile this response has been taken from our car pound computer system called the Easy Link Vehicle Information System (ELVIS). This is a live system and as such records are subject to review and change. Therefore data analysis over time can produce different results.
• All the data provided is specific to vehicles seized under S.165A Road Traffic Act (RTA) 1988. This is a power of seizure associated with the offences of driving without insurance, contrary to S.143 RTA 1988; and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, contrary to S.87(1) RTA 1988.
• The data is provided for calendar years.
• We have inferred from the term scrapped that you actually mean disposed of. This is because the disposal of a vehicle can be achieved through the scrapping of the vehicle, the breaking of a vehicle for parts or its sale via auction. Given that this request is specific to S.165A RTA seizures, we have assumed that you are actually interested in all disposals where the vehicle remained unclaimed, irrespective of the method of disposal.
