Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.22.026670
I note you seek access to the following information:
1) Count of Property Screens with Phones Stolen, by Month and Year, recorded between 01/01/2017 and 30/09/2022.
2) Count of Property Screens where Stolen Phones were Recovered, by Month and Year, recorded between 01/01/2017 and 30/09/2022.
3) Count of victims who report a stolen phone to the MET police by Month and Year, recorded between 01/01/2017 and 30/09/2022.
4) Count of arrests made by the MET Police for mobile phone theft by Month and Year, recorded between 01/01/2017 and 30/09/2022.
It would also be very helpful if the MET Police are able to give us an estimate of what percentage of stolen phones are taking via gang crime operations in comparison to isolated pick pocketers and others. For example "Police estimate that 10% of phone thieves are responsible for …% of phone thefts".
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
I have disclosed the information located to you in the attached spreadsheet.
CAVEATS
The notes tab of the attached spreadsheet should be read in conjunction with data provided. It should also be noted that the data provided in respect of mobile phones recovered is reliant on officers involved in each investigation updating each relevant crime report. When the appropriate screen in the crime report has not been updated, the MPS is unable to report on those offences where the mobile phone has been recovered.
