This is a request for information that relates to the organisation’s contracts around ICT contract(s) for Server Hardware Maintenance, Server Virtualisation Licenses and Maintenance and Storage Area Network (SAN) Maintenance/Support, which may include:

• Server Hardware Maintenance- contracts relating to the support and maintenance of the organisation’s physical servers.
• Virtualisation Maintenance/Support/ Licensing (VMware, Solaris, Unix, Linux, Windows Server)
• Storage Area Network Maintenance/Support (EMC, NetApp etc)
For each of the types of contract described above, please can you provide me with the following data. If there is more than one contract please split the information for each separate supplier this includes annual spend

1. Contract Title: Please provide me with the contract title.
2. Type of Contracts (ABOVE): Please can you provide me with one or more contract types the contract relates to: Server Hardware, Virtualisation, SAN (Storage Area Network)
3. Existing/Current Supplier: Please provide me with the supplier name for each contract.
4. Brand: Please state the brand of hardware or software
5. Operating System / Software (Platform): (Windows, Linux, Unix, Vsphere, AIX, Solaris etc.) Please state the operating system used by the organisation.

Decision

I have today decided to disclose some of the requested information. Some data has been withheld as it is exempt from disclosure and therefore this response serves as a Refusal Notice under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act) by virtue of the following exemptions:

Section 31(1)(a)(b) – Law Enforcement.

Reason for decision

Section 31(1)(a)(b) – Law Enforcement - The MPS is charged with enforcing the law and preventing and detecting crime. Any information released under the Act which reveals information related to the make/manufacture/ type of infrastructure or systems we employ could prejudice the prevention and detection of crime and the apprehension or prosecution of offenders. Disclosure could potentially provide any individuals with malicious intent to target information about the products we use which could in turn aid individuals to commit attack/exploits.

Release of the information detailing the make/manufacture/type of infrastructure or systems we employ would have the effect of compromising law enforcement processes and would also hinder the ability of the MPS to fulfil its primary aim of enforcing the law and protecting the public during day to day policing.

The disclosure of this information to the public by the MPS would undermine the MPS's ability to properly police on a day to day basis. Release of the information mentioned above would allow those wishing to disrupt day to day policing to use the information to assist in evading detection should they be planning any unlawful acts.

The MPS contract for the support and maintenance of all of the infrastructure services mentioned.

The current supplier is Capgemini.

Approximately 2 years prior to contract expiry.

The MPS server infrastructure is under constant renewal and growth, there is no single date that applies here.

Q11 - Number of Physical Server: Please can you provide me with the number of physical servers.

There are 490 physical services.

Q12 - Number of Virtual Servers: Please can you provide me with the number of Virtual servers

There are 1,900 virtual servers.

Q13 - Brief Contract Description: I require a brief description of the service provided under this contract. Please do not just put maintenance. I need at least a sentence.

The MPS has contracted Capgemini to provide support and maintenance (break/fix) across its entire infrastructure. This does not include evergreening.
