Q1 - To become an authorised firearms officer can you apply straight after your 2-3 year probation?
Yes. Roles within armed commands are advertised periodically and are open to substantive Constables.
Q2 - What's the typical route to become a Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearms officers? Is it become a constable then an AFO, then ARVO then SFO then CTSFO?
The process to become a Counter Terrorist Specialist Firearms Officer is as follows:
• Complete probation and confirmed as a Constable
• Apply for and be successful in process to become an Armed Response Vehicle Officer
• Complete ARV mentoring period
• Apply for CTSFO assessment process
• On successful completion of assessment process, allocated place on CTSFO course
• Complete CTSFO course

Q4 - After completing probation to become a constable what roles would be available to me to specialise in? Could I get a list please?
An officer is eligible to apply for any specialist role where there are vacancies after completing their probationary period. As policing has a wide range of roles across many different business areas it is not possible to provide a specific list of roles available.
