Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.22.024410
I note you seek access to the following information:
I would like to know the procedure in place for the care of a domestic pet when a person has been arrested and they live alone with their pet.
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
At the moment, there is no specific policy relating to your request, however there are guidance documents in relation to the police response to the location of animals during incidents such as these.
Guidance:
If a person is arrested and have a domestic pet that will be left alone. The person is asked if they have someone who could take care of the animal on their behalf.
If no one is available then the police will take possession of the animal. The animal can be kept at the police station for a short period of time, or the RSPCA or a suitable animal charity would be contacted who will then take care of the animal.
