Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.22.024301
I note you seek access to the following information:
1) Did the Metropolitan Police receive legal advice in regard to the COVID-19 Pandemic?
2) Did any legal advice come from a Government Legal Department lawyer or similar Government official.
3) Did the Metropolitan Police receive legal advice from a private practice solicitor or barrister?
4) Was any advice received ongoing or a one-time piece of advice.
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
You have asked for information on legal advice received by The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic. The MPS has a team of in-house lawyers and commissions advice from other firms and counsel when needed. The MPS did receive legal advice in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic, some of this would have come from its in-house team of lawyers with some support from counsel. None of the advice came from a Government Legal Department (or Civil Service) lawyer. There are a number of different matters where advice was given throughout the period of the pandemic.
