Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.22.024235
I note you seek access to the following information:
Please could you provide me with an estimate of the cost incurred of the Just Stop Oil/ Extinction Rebellion protests at oil terminals to your police force since 1 April 2022.
I have today decided to disclose some of the requested information. Some data has been withheld as it is exempt from disclosure and therefore this response serves as a Refusal Notice under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act) by virtue of the following exemptions:
Section 22(1) – information intended for future publication
Reason for decision
I have today decided to disclose some of the requested information. However, please note that all Extinction Rebellion event data from 8-17 April will be released as part of a pre-planned disclosure, due for release by 12 June 2022.
FOI requests take resources to deal with – from the logging of the requests, to the searching for information and the writing of responses. The legislators specifically wrote this exemption into the Act to prevent using resources where it was not necessary, and to encourage authorities to proactively publish information as opposed to waiting until it is requested. Disclosing this information now would not be a sensible use of our limited resources.
This exemption was introduced to assist authorities who are proactively publishing information. To disclose information covered by an established, pre-defined publication schedule defeats the point of doing such proactive disclosures in the first place and uses resources that could be utilised more effectively elsewhere.
Disclosure
From 1-8 April only, costings where there were resources were put on for Just Stop Oil events.
