Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.22.023756
I note you seek access to the following information:
I am seeking information on allegations of police misconduct and their outcomes over the last five years.
Could you please provide the following specific information:
- A list of allegations of police misconduct for the calendar years of 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
- For each allegation, state whether the allegation was made from the public or through internal complaints within the Met.
- The type of each allegation specified i.e. sexual misconduct, use of force etc.
- The staff type of each officer responsible for alleged misconduct.
- The outcome for each allegation of police officer misconduct i.e. whether formal action was taken, and if so, what sanction was imposed.
Some parts of this request may be easier to answer than others, and should this prove to be the case, I would ask that you release available data as soon as possible rather than hold up the entire request.
Clarification -
Thank you for your response.
To answer your points of clarification, please provide the following information:
• Data on just the police officers employed by the Met
• The rank of the police officers included in the data
I have today decided to disclose some of the requested information. Some data has been withheld as it is exempt from disclosure and therefore this response serves as a Refusal Notice under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act) by virtue of the following exemptions:
Section 40(2) – Personal Information
Reason for decision
Section 40 - Personal Information is an absolute exemption which means that the legislators have identified that harm would be caused by any release. In addition there is no requirement to consider the public interest test.
Your request asks for information broken down by each allegation which is likely to identify individuals.
In order to reduce the harm in disclosure, I have decided to provide you with data in an uncorrelated format.
