Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.22.023301
I note you seek access to the following information:
1. How many people are currently employed to work on Operation Domain, and at what cost to the tax payer? (Operation Domain is understood to be the Met's operation to identify and remove music videos from YouTube; if the name has since changed then please provide details of this change).
2. In 2019 it was stated in a response to an FOI request that the Met was seeking to replicated its partnership with YouTube "with other platforms where content is being seen."
3. How many other platforms has the partnership since been replicated with, and what are their names?
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Q1 - How many people are currently employed to work on Operation Domain, and at what cost to the tax payer? (Operation Domain is understood to be the Met's operation to identify and remove music videos from YouTube; if the name has since changed then please provide details of this change).
There are two officers who complete the function of referring gang-related content to social media companies where we believe it breaches a platform’s community guidelines and will incite or trigger gang violence. Information on MPS Police Officer salaries is already available in the public domain and I have included a link below for your information.
Q2 - In 2019 it was stated in a response to an FOI request that the Met was seeking to replicated its partnership with YouTube "with other platforms where content is being seen."
Project Alpha now has responsibility within the MPS for identifying and referring online content to social media platforms.
Q3 - How many other platforms has the partnership since been replicated with, and what are their names?
In respect of gang-related content, the MPS, in addition to YouTube, works in collaboration with Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter. However, the majority of referrals to remove online content concerns material posted on YouTube.
