Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.22.024904
I note you seek access to the following information:
REQUEST 1:
How many fines and/or prosecutions have been issued by Met police, as well as Islington police specifically, relating to vehicles whose exhausts make noise above the legal limit of 80dB in the last 12 months?
REQUEST 2:
How many 'acoustic cameras' designed to automatically detect vehicles making noise above the legal limit of 80dB have been installed, or are planned for installation in London, as well in Islington specifically?
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
With regards to Request 2 - This information is not held by Police. It is not within our remit to enforce or install Acoustic Cameras – this would come under the relevant Local authority or Transport for London (TfL).
I have provided a link to submit an FOI request to TfL.
TfL - Freedom of Information Request
REQUEST 1 - How many fines and/or prosecutions have been issued by Met police, as well as Islington police specifically, relating to vehicles whose exhausts make noise above the legal limit of 80dB in the last 12 months?
We can confirm that for the period from May 2021 to April 2022, the MPS issued a total of 16 Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) for ‘causing unnecessary noise’ whilst driving on a public road. None of the 16 TORs was issued in London Borough of Islington.
Officers however, do not issue tickets for the specific offence you are requesting above (drivers whose exhausts make noise above the legal limit of 80dB). The TOR’s shown as issued would have been issued using officer discretion.
