Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.22.025794
I note you seek access to the following information:
I was just wondering, since I could not find it online, whether the Treasury Solicitor's Department is REQUIRED to represent the Metropolitan Police Service (as it is under the Home Office) or whether the MET Police's legal department can represent the MET in court.
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
The Treasury Solicitor’s Department became the Government Legal Department (GLD) in 2015. Whilst we may work with GLD the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) does not instruct GLD instead our in-house team (Directorate of Legal Services) will instruct external Counsel to represent the MPS in civil proceedings as required.
