Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.21.022394
I note you seek access to the following information:
Number of crimes committed by people 18 years old and younger in the UK over the last 10 calendar years (January - December), showing each year and:
• The region of the UK the crimes were committed in (London, East Midlands, North East, etc)
• The type of crimes committed (criminal charge, such as possession of an offensive weapon or assault)
• The ages of the victims of the crimes (If exact age is not possible, age brackets such as 12-15)
• The gender of the people who committed the crimes
• The ages of the people who committed the crimes (If exact age is not possible, age brackets such as 12-15)
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
I have attached an excel spreadsheet with the answers to your questions. Please note there are three separate tabs within the spreadsheet, titled cover sheet, notes and table. The notes page should be read in conjunction with the data to ensure the report is interpreted correctly.
DATASET CAVEATS
In supplying the attached data there are caveats that you will need to note. The PAU have obtained the data from a system called the Crime Report Information System (CRIS). CRIS is used to record criminal offences that have been reported within the MPS district. Police Officers and Police Staff can create a crime record and are able to document actions related to a crime investigation, on a crime report.
The MPS proceed against those over the age of 10. Therefore the ages below that contained on the table are errors. However, to find the actual age would require a member of staff to read every crime record, which would result in a cost refusal. It is also important to note that an age of "0" is returned from CRIS when the field has been left blank.
