CONTEXT
There is no set definition of APVA and so the analyst has counted all crime types as things such as theft or criminal damage could be considered forms of abuse (i.e. controlling behaviour, putting someone in fear etc.). They have extracted crimes where the suspect or accused was shown as son, step son, daughter or step daughter of the victim and that suspect or accused is aged up to 19. There is no lower age limit for when someone is defined as adolescent.
The MPS started using outcomes from the end of 2014 – detections show if a report is undetected, or if detected, how so. Outcomes give greater detail on the results of an investigation (particularly reasons for not being detected) and allows us to see where ones are still pending/open also. You will notice that the number pending in recent years is higher as some are still being investigated.
