Q1 - Does your organisation have a formal policy in-place for ensuring your directly employed staff are not in, in-work poverty?
There is no formal policy in place but the London Living Wage is set, in part, to combat this and we continue to pay at the London Living Wage as a minimum.
Q2 - Does your organisation employ temporary staff?
Yes.
Q3 - If so, what proportion of the workforce are temporary staff?
Currently, agency staff and contractors make up 2.7% of the workforce.
Q4 - Does your organisation have a formal policy or policies in-place to minimize the proportion of the workforce that is made up of temporary staff?
The MPS has no generic formal HR policy in place to minimise the proportion of the workforce that is made up of temporary staff.
Q5 - Does your organisation pay at least the London Living Wage to all its staff i.e. those both directly employed and temporary?
All MPS staff are paid the London Living Wage. Temporary agency staff are not employed by the MPS.
Q6 - Which of the following measures, if any, does your organisation have in-place for all its permanent full-time staff?
a - Help with travel costs
Free TFL travel is given to all officers. There is subsidised rail travel available to all officers. Free bus travel is given to Police Community Support Officers. The Excess Fares policy allows individuals to claim additional costs of travel when asked to undertake journeys beyond home to work.

Support is available through the Occupational Health Services.

Support is available through the Occupational Health Services.

The same measures are available to permanent part-time staff as are to permanent full-time staff.
Q8 - Which of the following measures, if any, does your organisation have in-place for all its temporary staff?
If a temporary member of staff is employed by the MPS, they will have the same access as permanent members of staff. If they are not employed by the MPS, then they will retain the benefits package of their employer.
Q9 - Does your organisation procure, from private suppliers, goods and/ or services required for its internal functioning?
Yes.
Q10 - Does your organisation have procurement policies in-place which ensure that those working for entities supplying goods and/ or services to it, are not in, in-work poverty?
Our contract terms ensure that suppliers meet all applicable employment laws including equality, health and safety, pay living or London Living Wage as well as compliance with Modern Slavery laws and Human Rights.
Q11 - Does your organisation have procurement policies in-place which require the entities supplying goods and/ or services to it, to pay those workers employed by those suppliers and delivering such goods and/ or services, (at least) the London Living Wage?
London Living Wage is encouraged but expected on contracts meeting a certain criteria for workers employed on MPS premises.
Q12 - Does your organisation have procurement policies in-place which require the entities supplying goods and/ or services to it, to ensure the workers employed by those suppliers and delivering those goods and/ or services, are employed on permanent full-time contracts?
This would depend on the type of contract or if the supplier needs to take on sub-contractors to deliver some of the services.
Q13 - Does your organisation require (in contractual terms and conditions) the entities supplying goods and/ or services to it, limit the proportion of workers they have delivering such goods and/ or services that are on temporary contracts?
This would be dependent on the purpose of the contract.
Q14 - Does your organisation have arrangements in place for procuring services for the public, that your institution is under a duty to provide, from private suppliers?
Contracts are advertised on various tendering portals and open to bids from private or public sector organisations.
With reference to Q.15-18, we would endorse the same contract term principles on any services we contracted out.
