The details of the main sessions are as follows:
Child exploitation
This workshop gives an overview of the dangers of child exploitation, explained through a video titled “exploited”. The video follows the journey of a young female that meets a new set of peers, after going with the group she becomes aware that one of the other females is being sexually exploited by an adult.
The workshop asks questions around early signs of exploitation and the dangers of this and how the different mechanisms on how to escape exploitation.
Sexting
This workshop looks into the dangers of creating and sending sexually explicit images. This is done by having open discussions with the students and reviewing a video called “just send it”
The video follows a young female who sends an explicit image of herself to her partner that is then shared to all of her peers. The workshop culminates to an exercise to build confidence in saying no to advances asking for inappropriate images.
Serious Youth Violence
This workshop centres around gangs and knife crimes. Students are lead through a set of choices like “taking free gifts” from strangers to carrying backpacks to locations. The repercussions of those choices and the reasons why they are dangerous.
We then go on to explore the reasons why young people carry knives and the legal and physical dangers of this. The workshop then looks into diversionary tactics that the students can use to keep themselves out of trouble and be active and successful Londoners.
