Freedom of information request reference no: 01.FOI.22.023546
I note you seek access to the following information:
1. Please could you provide information on what driver tickets the Metropolitan Police Trojan units hold. Are these a normal advanced TPAC ticket or do they hold advanced tickets with permission to reinforced stop etc.
2. Please could you detail what permissions they have whilst driving in a pursuit
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.
Please find below information pursuant to your request above.
Q1 - Please could you provide information on what driver tickets the Metropolitan Police Trojan units hold. Are these a normal advanced TPAC ticket or do they hold advanced tickets with permission to reinforced stop etc.
Metropolitan Police ARV’s are driven by Advanced Drivers who are not TPAC trained. They are trained in Initial Phase Pursuit (IPP), including Motorcycle Pursuits, and implementing reinforced stops. ARV drivers receive further inputs and firearms tactical training around stopping vehicles with armed subjects on or within them.
Q2 - Please could you detail what permissions they have whilst driving in a pursuit
Advanced drivers who are IPP trained and engaged in a vehicle pursuit, follow the subject vehicle reporting on its location and direction before handing over to Tactical Phase trained drivers once the Tactical Phase of a pursuit has been authorised.
Police drivers are subject to certain traffic exemptions, a pursuit being one of these, and can use exemptions around speed limits, red traffic lights and Keep Left bollards. All drivers drive in line with Authorised Professional Practice (APP) and Metropolitan Police Standard Operating Procedures. Actions taken or any force used is subject to the National Decision Making model and requires justification.
