In this newly created role, you’ll be joining our Fleet Services unit, which has recently been restructured. Your task is to work with our partner to develop technical standards and to develop Met Fleet policies. Our fleet is critical to frontline policing, which makes your role absolutely vital. Join us, and play your part in protecting the people of London.
Following a procurement exercise, the Met has selected a service provider to deliver the majority of our Fleet Services’ functions. As Technical Services Lead, you will manage all technical aspects of fleet requirements. You will also ensure that the fleet provided meets, or exceeds, the standards defined in the contract and within our operating requirements. At the same time, you’ll take responsibility for Fleet policy development and ownership, as well as technical design. At this level, you’ll have the chance to contribute to national technical standards and policy too.
This is a senior role supporting the Head of Fleet Services. You will be required to provide guidance and direction, not only in terms of technical services management, but as a senior member of the Fleet Intelligent Client Function. With responsibility for nine team members, you'll be a capable leader who can meet deadlines and bring continuous improvement.
A background in emergency services or fleet management would certainly be an advantage. However, it's more important that you have experience of developing technical standards in line with best practice and regulatory requirements. You should be able to analyse different types of data and summarise it in reports, influencing key organisational decisions with your recommendations and insights. We're also looking for the ability to identify risks and opportunities. Beyond this, strong relationship, project and commercial management skills will be essential in your work. Knowledge of fleet services technical standards, fleet vehicles and our governance would be ideal.
