Learn how the Met meets Information legislation

When it comes to Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Information Sharing, there’s no room for error. That why we have an expert Information Rights Unit who specialise in this legislation. As a Privacy Assistant, you’ll gain unique experience working with our professionals. If you want to build a career in Information Law, this is an exceptional opportunity.

Your main task, as part of our Casework team, is to consider Subject Access Requests made under Section 7 of the Data Protection Act 1988. You’ll search our systems for the information required and also apply exemptions. You’ll be reading personnel files, misconduct proceedings and details of criminal investigations. Such material can be interesting, but sometimes offensive or distressing.

To join us, you’ll need basic knowledge of the Data Protection Act 1998. You’ll also need good IT skills including Word, Outlook and Excel. However, the key to success is excellent organisation: you need to undertake a range of tasks, showing resilience and initiative to meet tight deadlines. We’re keen to hear from people with customer focus and a good eye for detail.  If you can also communicate clearly and work under pressure, we can offer you invaluable experience.
