The Directorate of Media and Communications (DMC) is the Metropolitan Police Service in-house communication function and is arguably one of the busiest and exciting communication teams in London.
The department operates around the clock to deliver impactful communications that help to keep people safe, keep over 40,000 police officers and staff informed and deliver the Met’s vision to make London the safest global city.
We are looking for a brilliant senior internal communications manager to join our internal team and help deliver the Met’s most important work to-date. The Met and its people have an abundance of fascinating stories to tell and incredible content to showcase through our established internal channels.

Job purpose
To lead communication internally to help the Met keep London safe
The role
- engaging and informing officers and staff in business groups (to be confirmed) in support of the DMC internal communications (IC) strategy and Met direction strategy
- developing and implementing, in collaboration with the head of internal campaigns, internal campaigns to drive behaviour change
- delivering a programme of communications that supports business priorities and change activity
- delivering and ensuring the effectiveness of internal communications and activity to budget, plan and quality
- ensuring content and messaging is coherent and consistent across the Met to supports its strategy
- measuring the success and performance of internal content and campaigns
- lead the integration of internal content and campaigns, when appropriate, across social media, press and external campaigns
Responsibilities
- work collaboratively and proactively across the IC and wider DMC team to ensure internal communications is integrated and coordinated
- lead the planning, management, and delivery of campaign and change communications across a wide variety of channels and media
- manage and work with key stakeholders to support business priorities
- provide coaching and counsel internal communication with management board leads, directors and senior leaders to develop strategies, plans and materials, working collaboratively within own team and across the organisation
- oversee the delivery engaging content across online and offline channels
- support key stakeholders and business groups to achieve their strategic priorities
- put in place robust insight and evaluation methodologies and practices to support performance reporting of communication
- lead on the measurement and monitoring of internal communications, keeping stakeholders informed of progress and impact, and use this information to drive continual improvement and development.
- drive innovation within the team, to continually seek new ways to effectively and efficiently engage employees
- oversee campaign activity, in collaboration with the head of internal campaigns, including liaising with internal and external suppliers and managing costs against budget
- champion the Met’s brand, digital and editorial standards, guidelines, and communication standards
- actively seek out external best practice and new ideas to help shape the future agenda and develop the campaigns team as a centre of excellence
