Could you develop sonar, radar and search systems to keep our city safe?
Did you know that there's a raft of dedicated professionals protecting London behind the scenes? They include engineers and scientists who develop innovative technology to combat crime and terrorism. As a Technical Support Engineer within our Protective Security and Operations Command, you'll create specialist search tech for colleagues in Counter Terrorism.
In this vital part of the Met, we develop capabilities such as Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear detection systems. Your task will be to create metal detection, x-ray imaging, side-scan sonar, ground penetrating radar, thermal imaging and other solutions, getting to grips with the technology quickly in case you need to deploy equipment.
To join us, you'll need a proven technical background in Electronics or an Electro/Mechanical discipline. You should also have a good grasp of chemistry, physics, telecommunications and radio frequency, as well as a passion for tech and its applications. Your knowledge will be supported by at least four GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths. A-levels (or equivalent) would be even better. While this expertise is essential, you'll also need to be practical, organised and able to think on your feet.
To deliver the very best solutions, it's vital that you work together with officers and fellow Engineers. With teamwork, initiative and your specialist knowledge, you'll create technology that can play a critical role in keeping our city safe.
