As a chief legal officer, you will be responsible for providing a first class legal service through the Directorate of Legal Services (DLS) to the Commissioner, for all Met business, including:
The chief legal officer undertakes an active decision-making role as senior legal professional adviser. They work personally with the Commissioner, the Met management board and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC).
As budget holder with accountability for between £15million to £20million and circa 160 staff, the chief legal officer leads the largest police legal team in the UK. As a role model, the chief legal officer will be responsible for the performance of the Met legal department, as well as building their required skills and expertise.
You will have a share of leadership responsibility. Whilst working within the Met’s delivery of volume, breadth, complexity and importance, you’ll take on the challenge of delivering the ‘New Met for London’ action plan, which underlines our mission to deliver 'More Trust, Less Crime, High Standards'.
