We are actively recruiting firearms officers as transferees.
Whether you are an authorised firearms officer, an armed response officer, close protection officer, CT specialist firearms officer or a firearms instructor, there are a number of exciting opportunities here for you at the Met.
Policing London is a job like no other. You would be joining some of the UK’s busiest firearms units with new challenges on hand for even the most experienced officer.
With a range of vacancies across our firearm commands there has never been a better time to consider making the move.
Working closely with you to understand your individual skill-set, you will be posted based on both your needs and ours.
We currently have the following opportunities for experienced firearms officers to further their career at the Met:
Armed response vehicle officers (ARV)
As one of the first on the scene at firearms incidents across the city, you’ll play a vital role in keeping members of the public safe and secure. You will be the primary response to firearms incidents across London and will also provide visible, proactive policing support for front line policing colleagues. You will also provide the primary response to incidents at diplomatic and consular premises within the Met, and support other agencies in delivering a secure environment within the government security zone and wider governmental requirements across London.
A number of our officers are trained to perform specialist roles above and beyond that of an ARV officer.
You’ll join a team providing overt and covert specialist armed support for serious crime and counter terrorist operations. Just as important, you’ll be part of our designated hostage rescue team and will play an essential role in helping to combat terrorism.
You will be a fully-qualified CTSFO, already based at one of the national CTFSO hubs.
National firearms instructors
As an instructor at our Firearms & Public Order Training Centre (MPSTC) in Gravesend, you’ll also be part of our strategic reserve of armed officers, ready to be deployed on operations as required.
You will be a nationally qualified police firearms instructor with a minimum of ARV as your role profile.
Royalty and specialist protection officers (RaSP)
As a RaSP officer you would be responsible for providing discrete, mobile protection for the sovereign, Royal family, Prime Minister and cabinet members, in addition to certain individual visitors to the United Kingdom. This task is performed by both personal protection officers (PPO) and close protection officers (CPO).
You will be a current nationally accredited protection officer or an authorised firearms officers who would be willing to undertake an assessment to become a close protection officer, willing to attend the national close protection officer course.
Parliamentary and diplomatic protection officers (PaDP):
Working within PaDP you would be joining the largest armed command in England, Scotland and Wales, dealing with a wide range of tasks involving the protection of high profile individuals and iconic sites.
Aviation policing command officers
Working closely with our partners at Heathrow and London City airport, you will provide a safe and secure environment for the airport community and travelling public. Our unit includes uniformed firearms officers, both authorised firearm officers and armed response vehicles, as well as a dedicated CID team and partnership teams.
