Safer Transport Command

Partners

A wide range of agencies are involved in keeping London’s transport system safe and secure. The partnership between the policing agencies in the capital, Transport for London (TfL) and other local authorities allows for an integrated approach to safety and security. The Community Safety Plan 2009/10 for transport and travelling highlights the objectives and action plan set out by TfL and its policing partners.

Transport for London – There are millions of journeys made on public transport every day. TfL invests £millions of pounds in keeping the transport network safe through funding policing services, investing in CCTV and Help Points, gathering intelligence, designing out crime, and public engagement.

British Transport Police - More than 700 BTP officers patrol the London Underground network in addition to the officers patrolling on the London Overground network.

City of London Police – The City of London Police is responsible for the safety of everyone in London's 'Square Mile' including on public transport.

British Transport Police, MPS Safer Transport Command and Transport for London formed a collaborative theft reduction team called Project Spiderweb to further reduce theft across all modes of public transport in London in preparation for a safe and secure 2012 games.
