Simon Pountain is a Commander in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) he is responsible for Operational Information, Intelligence and Learning.

His portfolio includes the Operational Information Service, which has responsibility for the disclosure of criminal convictions, and other relevant information when a person applies to work with children or vulnerable adults.

He is the MPS’s Deputy Director of Intelligence and has responsibility for the Met Intelligence Bureau, Intelligence Standards and support unit.

He also has responsibility for the Crime Academy and Serious Crime Review Group, which aims to ensure that learning from major investigations is passed on for the benefit of future investigations.

He has national responsibilities as the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) lead for the disclosure of criminal convictions and leads on liaison with the Criminal Records Bureau and Independent Safeguarding Authority. He also leads for ACPO on International Criminality information sharing arising out of the Magee review of criminality information.

Simon joined the MPS in November 1981 and spent the majority of his service as a uniformed officer in Central, West, and North London before promotion to Chief Superintendent and posting as the Borough Commander at Hackney Borough.

He was staff officer to Sir Ian Blair for a year prior to attending the Strategic Command Course in 2007.

This is Simon’s first ACPO role having being promoted in June 2008.
