Detectives in Enfield are appealing for information after an 84-year-old woman fell victim to a distraction burglary in N14.
The incident took place at 17.05hrs on Saturday, 16 August, when a suspect knocked on the door of the woman’s house in Bramley Road.
The man claimed to be from the local council and said that he needed to smell the woman’s water due to a potential gas leak.
After the man was allowed into the property and proceeded to test the water, the victim noticed that a second man had entered and was in the living room.
She immediately called police, prompting the suspects to flee in the direction of Oakwood underground station.
After they had left, the victim realised that £51 had been taken from her purse.
The suspects are described as:
= White, tall, with a strong Irish accent, aged 30 - 40 years old, with stubble, and wearing a faded / washed-out blue top.
= White, smaller than the other suspect, with a stocky / muscular build, and wearing a zipped-up, tweed-coloured bomber jacket.
Anyone with information that could assist officers should call Enfield CID on 020 8345 4469. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
