Police investigating the death of a cyclist in Whitechapel have now identified the deceased.
Officers were called to Whitechapel Road, with the junction of Commercial Road, at approximately 23:30hrs on Wednesday, 13 November, to reports of a collision between a male cyclist and a route 205 double decker bus.
London Ambulance Service was called to the scene and treated the cyclist who was subsequently taken to an east London hospital but pronounced dead at approximately 04:00hrs.
Detectives were initially unable to identify the deceased but have since done so and next of kin have been informed.
Formal identification has taken place, however, we will not be naming the victim ahead of the opening of the inquest at Poplar Coroner's Court - date TBC.
The man was 21 years old and from NW8.
The male driver of bus was treated at the scene for shock.
There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
Officers from the Met's Road Death Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath investigate.
