What
we do
The NMPCU acts as a co-ordinator between
industry, police and
other law enforcement agencies.
We gather, develop and disseminate intelligence
on groups and individuals who steal, handle, reprogram and export
stolen mobile phones, covering all levels of criminality as described
within the National Intelligence Model (NIM).
As part of this remit, the NMPCU provides
the following services to both industry and law enforcement agencies:
- Intelligence on those involved in mobile
phone crime
- Expert advice on mobile phone crime
- Facilitation of contact between the telecoms
industry and law enforcement
- Advice/assistance on pro-active operations
- Liaison for publicity
- Provide minimum standards of investigation for Mobile Phone Crime, through 'Good Practice' guides, including specialized tactics
- Guidance on false reporting of street
crime
- Assistance for patrolling Officers.
