Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy
The death of any baby is a tragedy and every parent has the right to have such an event properly investigated. Project Indigo is the MPS response to Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI).
It is essential to acknowledge that the vast majority of these deaths are tragic events. Therefore our specialist police officers ensure that a balanced approach is taken to determine why a child has died.
We provide families with as much information as possible about our investigation
and treat them in accordance with their
needs. This includes giving them a Project
Indigo leaflet which offers
support and advice (the leaflet is produced in other languages).
In addition, we share research from our investigations with the Foundation for the Study of Infant Death (FSID) and the Great Ormond Street Hospital to help better understand the causes and risks which can help reduce unexpected infant deaths.
