These Principles are intrinsically linked to the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) Standard Operating Procedures shown below, and together will:
  • highlight the valuable contribution that an intelligence focus and human rights approach can make to these encounters;
  • set a standard of community expectation during encounters with officers;
  • require managers and supervisors to ensure that the best possible use is made of stops and searches to address local policing needs, identified through the National Intelligence Model and community consultation;
  • require managers/supervisors to provide positive leadership to enable all officers to act with confidence by giving credible reasoning to their actions whilst acting within the law and the guidance.
