Domestic violence

There were over 110,000 reported incidents of domestic violence in London last year.

Domestic violence is a crime that cuts across all social, cultural and religious boundaries. It has devastating and far-reaching consequences for victims, their families and the wider community.

Two women are murdered every week in England and Wales at the hands of partners or ex-partners. Domestic homicide accounts for over 25% of murders in London.

The Met is committed to holding domestic violence offenders accountable and we will arrest given reasonable grounds.

We are no longer reliant upon the victim's statement to do this and will pursue abusers independently.

We work with a number of partner agencies to prevent domestic violence. The Met's Domestic Violence Working Group has representation from victim support organisations, advocacy services and other partner organisations. With this approach we are convicting more offenders and are better protecting victims of domestic abuse.
