Protecting your business from robbery

What to do after a robbery

Following a robbery there are some simple steps that you can take to assist the police:

  • Close The Premises. This action will help preserve the scene for police crime scene examiners.
  • Help Customers or Staff. Provide assistance to any customers or staff who may have been injured or who appear to be suffering from shock.
  • Call Police. Dial 999 and say: “There has been an armed robbery”. Then provide the operator with all the details they require. They will need the address, details of any injuries, and details about the offenders. These questions are important as police responding to the call will be looking out for the offenders whilst travelling to the scene.
  • Don’t Touch. Do not touch anything that has been touched or left by the robber/s. If a weapon has been left please guard it but do not touch it. Firearms should be left in situ for police to deal with.
  • Inform your security department. If you have a security department they will need to be informed.
  • Secure any video images. Don’t view the video but make police aware that video of the incident does exist.
  • Please do not give any information to the press before speaking to the police. There may be information which police would rather withhold to assist in the investigation.

Robbery is a traumatic offence and affects people differently. Please look out for your colleagues following a raid. If you or a colleague requires further assistance please contact your GP or Victim Support.
