Total Crimes

Top

Total Notifiable Offences (TNO) is a count of all offences which are statutorily notifiable to the Home Office. Click here for crime prevention advice.

Homicide

Top

Includes offences of Murder, Manslaughter, Corporate Manslaughter and Infanticide.

Violence Against the Person (Total)

Top

Includes a range of offences including Murder, Harassment, Common Assault, Actual Bodily Harm, Grievous Bodily Harm, Possession of Offensive Weapon (with intent) and Other Violence.

Rape

Top

Rape of a male or female.

Other Sexual

Top

All other sexual offences including Indecent Assault and Unlawful (under age) Sexual Intercourse.

Robbery (Total)

Top

Theft with the use of force or a threat of force. Both personal and commercial robbery are included. Click here for crime prevention advice.

Robbery (Person)

Top

A crime is categorised as a robbery where force is threatened or used to steal property. Snatch theft is not included.

Burglary (Total)

Top

Burglary is the theft, or attempted theft, from a building/premises where access is not authorised. Damage to a building/premises that appears to have been caused by a person attempting to enter to commit a burglary, is also counted as burglary. Burglary Residential

Residential Burglary is the theft, or attempted theft, from a building/premises (that is fit for habitation) where access is not authorised. Damage to buildings/premises that appears to have been caused by a person attempting to enter to commit a burglary is also counted as burglary. Click here for crime prevention advice.

Burglary Non-Residential

Top

Non-Residential Burglary is the theft, or attempted theft, from a building where access is not authorised. The building is not fit or intended for habitation e.g. a commercial property. Gun Crime

Top

Gun Crime is crime (Violence Against the Person, Robbery, Burglary and Sexual Offences) in which guns are used. A gun is taken to be involved in an offence if it is fired, used as a blunt instrument to cause injury to a person, or used as a threat. Where the victim is convinced of the presence of a firearm, even if it is concealed, and there is evidence to of the suspect's intention to create this impression, then the incident counts. Both real, and fake firearms, and air weapons are counted within this category.

Motor Vehicle Crime

Includes Theft Of and From Vehicles. Criminal damage to vehicles and vehicle interference/tampering are not included. Criminal damage to vehicles is counted within Criminal Damage and interference/tampering are counted in the Theft Category. Click here for crime prevention advice.

Domestic Crime

A Domestic Offence is any offence of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between adults who are or who have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender. Click here for further information.

Racist & Religious Hate Crime

A Racist & Religious Hate Crime Offence is any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person, or any offence where the offender demonstrates hostility based on the victim’s membership of a racial or religious group. Click here for further information.

Homophobic Crime

A Homophobic Offence is any offence which is perceived to be homophobic by the victim or any other person, that is intended to impact upon those known or perceived to be lesbian, gay, or bisexual. Click here for further information.
