Pedlars Certificates

A pedlar is a person who travels and trades on foot and goes from town to town or house-to-house selling goods or offering their skills in handicrafts. These are the doorknockers selling such things as, pictures, dusters etc. A person who acts without a pedlar's certificate commits an offence. A pedlar’s certificate does not entitle you to undertake Street-trading activities.

A pedlar must hold a certificate granted by the Commissioner of Police. The certificate is valid for one year and applies throughout the United Kingdom. Certificates cannot be issued to persons under 17.
If you wish to apply for a pedlar’s certificate you should fill in Form 568 and take this to your local police station who will deal with any enquiries.

Applicants must:

· Have been a resident on the borough where they attend for at least one month.
· Bring two photographs of which are a good likeness.
· Provide referees and employer details.
· provide proof of identity.
· provide proof of address.
