What we can offer you

Cadet Training

The aim of the Volunteer Police Cadets Programme is to enhance our cadets ability to contribute and achieve, and this is firmly rooted in all the training we provide to our cadets, and their leaders.

Through our varied training programme, you will have the opportunity to develop all the transferable skills you will need to support you in the modern and competitive employment world, regardless of your previous experience with education.

This includes:

  • Getting involved in exciting projects to help your local community and develop your local area, giving you the opportunity to use your imagination and ideas to help people, and build valuable problem-solving skills.
  • Learning about policing in relation to the community, the law and what it means to be a good citizen through expert lessons delivered by police officers and professionals.
  • Becoming both a key team player and a strong leader, able to play an active part in achieving your units goals and ambitions. You will develop skills and an achievement record which will support you throughout your future.
  • Having adventures – from physical activities at your weekly meetings to outward bound competitions and camping excursions, and the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme you’ll certainly never get bored!

As a cadet you will have the opportunity to achieve both a BTEC in Public Services (equivalent to 4 GCSEs), and a Duke of Edinburgh Award in Bronze, Silver and Gold (depending on your age and length of service as a cadet) both of which are highly respected and internationally recognised qualifications. All of our training is tailored to assist you in easily achieving and recording evidence to complete these qualifications, both of which cover the following elements:

  • Service (helping other people in the local community)
  • Expeditions (training for, planning and completing a journey on foot or horseback, by boat or cycle)
  • Skills (covering almost any hobby, skill or interest)
  • Physical Recreation (sport, dance and fitness)

Our motto is "it’s not where you’ve come from; it’s where you’re going that counts". We believe every young person should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. We are continually working hard to deliver a training programme that can make that a reality for our cadets, through supporting their personal and social development regardless of background or ability, and by providing qualifications to support their personal and professional future.

Our VPC Staff

We provide our Cadet Leaders with a comprehensive training package in Youth Leadership and Safeguarding, developed by recognised experts in the field. This ensures that our leaders lead by example and are as equipped as possible to protect and support cadets through every aspect of their development in the VPC Programme.
