Metropolitan Police Service
MSC presentation
The Metropolitan Special Constabulary (MSC) recently hosted a presentation evening aimed at Police Cadets interested in becoming Special Constables. Over 40 cadets attended the presentation to find out more about the application and interview process.
Tony Cox HR Community Engagement, Chief Inspector Richard Weaver from the MSC command and Special Constable Nana Ampaw provided the cadets with their valuable insights and expertise.
Nana was a cadet and is now a Volunteer Leader at Westminster cadets so was able to speak about her personal experiences of frontline policing and how being a cadet assisted with her interview to become a Special.
One of the main aims of the VPC programme is that cadets develop life skills and continue volunteering and contributing to their communities as socially responsible adults. There is an increasing number of young people leaving the VPC and moving on to the MSC and MVP programmes. The transferable skills cadets gain in the VPC programme, including citizenship, law, leadership, communications and discipline help them build confidence and prepare for the demanding adult volunteering roles of Special Constable or being a Met volunteer.
Enfield Head Cadet Socrates Ioannou said: "The MSC presentation was very encouraging and helped me to understand the criteria and what's expected of candidates. It was also beneficial being able to talk and ask questions to police officers within HR and Recruitment."
Chief Inspector for MSC and Volunteers Richard Weaver said: "I was grateful for the opportunity to speak to the VPC who attended this event. As part of the wider policing family they are well placed to see how the MPS can offer career opportunities. By considering the option of becoming a Special Constable they can maintain their links with MPS but the MPS also retains their experience and unique skills. I wish the very best to those who apply".
