Merton Cadets raise £210 at Wimbledon Common Charity Tug of War in aid of Hounds for Heroes!

Cadets at tug of war

On Sunday 4 September at this year's Wimbledon Common Stables and Rangers Open Day, Merton Police won the Charity Tug of War event! Despite terrible weather at the start, the famous Tug Of War (expertly organised and run by PS Adrian Sutherland and his Village Safer Neighbourhoods Team) raised funds for Hounds for Heroes, a very worthwhile campaign providing assistance dogs for injured and disabled Services and 999 colleagues.

Merton's Volunteer Police Cadets raised an extra £210 by encouraging spectators, friends and families to donate loose change (or notes in some cases!) to their Hounds for Heroes buckets, which will go a long way to providing assistance dogs.

Despite poor weather, the Merton Cadets loudly and enthusiastically supported their police officer and police staff colleagues, as the Merton Police team took on the LAS, London Taxi Drivers (Wimbledon Taxi Pumas) and the Royal Yeomanry TA from Putney, before finally beating a big team from Emmanuel Church in Wimbledon to take the 2011 trophy.

18 year old Cadet Ragavendira Jeyamohan said "We were very proud to be part of this event, to support colleagues and raise money. It has been a great day".

Cadet Tamasine Shears said "We didn't think the rain would stop, but it didn't put anyone off and if anything, the Tug of War teams got even more competitive! It was a good family event and they did really well".

Cadet Staff PCSO Louise Russell said "I'd like to thank all our Cadets for supporting this major event for Merton Police, and well done to our team who won this year! Our Cadets have worked hard at three key events in a row on our borough this week, which clearly shows their dedication and commitment in being part of everything we do here at Merton."
