Volunteer Cadets
Cadets at Notting Hill Carnival
Over
100 volunteer police cadets were deployed over two days at the
recent Notting Hill Carnival. This was the first time the cadets
have assisted at the carnival and they performed a valuable
customer engagement role. The cadets were within four of the
five sectors including Notting Hill Gate and Portobello Road.
The cadets handed out 50,000 leaflets regarding the carnival route and safety information, they also helped with the overcrowding by directing members of the public out of congested areas. The cadets were well received by the general public who were appreciative of both their assistance and presence at the Carnival.
Commander Bob Broadhurst, who was Gold for the policing operations, said: Carnival 2011 was more challenging than ever and the Volunteer Cadets made an enormous contribution towards keeping it safe. I was delighted to see so many young people give up their time to support the policing operation and was impressed with their confidence and commitment. I have had nothing but positive feedback and look forward to working with them again.
A cadet from Ealing said: It was great to
be able to support the policing operation at this years Carnival.
I really enjoyed meeting members of the public to help ensure
their safety and enjoyment of the day.
