Art and Antiques Unit
Introduction
The London Stolen Arts Database (LSAD) currently stores details and images of 54,000
items of stolen property. Items that qualify as pieces of art, antiques or as cultural
property are selected and shown within this site. Items that have good descriptions
provided by the owner are also selected.
The database includes the following categories:
Paintings, furniture, books, maps, manuscripts, carpets, rugs,
clocks, watches, coins, medals, glass, ivory, jade, musical instruments, postage stamps, pottery,
porcelain, silver, gold textiles and toys and games.
Use the links below to view examples of items extracted from the database.
You can request a search of the database to establish whether an item has been registered as stolen.
A certificate can be issued proving that a check has taken place as part of the
‘due diligence’ process.
It is anticipated that the public will be allowed online access to the database in the
future to conduct searches, however in the interim searches of the database can be conducted
by contacting the Art and Antiques Unit on 020 7230 2150 or by
e-mail
